Musings: Standards, simplicity, creating yourself, and mid-year reviews.
As they say, a kiss and a hug for the first day of the month — welcome to June!
Now, here are this month’s musings …
An idea to ponder —
Your standards set the stage for almost everything you experience — whether it's your health, the relationships you have, the work you do, or your state of happiness. Much of it comes back to our standards and what we will and won't accept from ourselves and others.
Because, in most cases, we know what we need to do to achieve the goals we have and live a life we love but whether we hold ourselves to standards that achieve those is what ultimately determines our experiences.
Therefore, if you want to improve your life, improve your standards.

L’art de la Simplicite by Dominique Loreau
Perhaps my most gifted and re-read book, L’art de la Simplicite provides imperative insights to help you maximise your life by emphasising the importance of quality, simplicity, and prioritising what truly matters — your health, relationships, happiness, finances, and maximising life itself.
Based on timeless principles, L’art de la Simplicity exalts the benefits that come from creating a life you love living, with emphasis on prioritising your health, tidy environments, quality over quantity, keeping a clear mind, simplifying your life and maintaining a lifelong commitment to being and becoming your best self.
For those interested in topics such as essentialism, mindfulness and the like, L’art de la Simplicite is definitely one to add to your reading list — it also makes for a beautiful coffee table book, that is, if you don’t underline, dog ear and post-it note majority of the book as I have.
Quotes to remember —
But if you have nothing at all to create, perhaps create yourself — Carl Jung
The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself. — Diane Von Furstenberg
It’s important to be more mindful of the important role that beauty plays in our lives and to be intentional with bringing more beauty into our lives to enrich our lives with more aesthetic experiences and pleasures. — Lana Blakely
An action to implement —
We’re about halfway through the year, making it a great time to review the goals you’ve set for yourself. Set aside some time this week to reflect on how the year has progressed. Acknowledge whether you're on your way to achieving your goals and identify what you could be doing to move closer to them or if you still want to achieve certain ones.
If you need a framework to help you become the person who achieves those goals, consider the Metamorphosis guide — a self-directed guide with key habits chosen to help you become your ideal self.

May Musings
Becoming your ideal self, timeless style, the importance of your internal state and romanticising your life.
Becoming your ideal self, timeless style, the importance of your internal state and romanticising your life.
An idea to ponder —
Becoming your ideal self is done in the moments when you catch your former self trying to pull you back but you stay grounded and aligned in the person you’re becoming. Moments such as — catching and reframing negative self-talk, pausing to respond instead of reacting, choosing discipline when you would rather not, taking actions that serve you, and any time you consciously change your habits and self-perception.
Because by being your ideal self, you ultimately become them.

Romanticise your life — Sit at a local park and read your favourite book, enjoy your coffee or tea whilst people-watching, watch a movie or have dinner by yourself, play classical music while cooking and cleaning, read hardcover books & keep one on hand at all times. Life is as long as it is short, maximise it by romanticising it.
